Detroit’s musical heritage is deeply tied to the City’s cultural climate. Susan E. Smith’s Dancing in the Street: Motown and the Cultural Politics of Detroit, assesses the motor cities most well known musical product. A complement to Smith’s book is High Tech Soul. Directed by Gary Bredrow, the film documents the development of techno music against the socio-economic backdrop of Detroit following the riots of 1967 and the economic downturn of the 1980s. High Tech Soul features interviews with the genres creators, and thanks to Carhartt is being released in limited editions. The DVD is now out at all Carhartt stores in Italy.
