WSJ. Magazine has published an interested article on the history of the puffy jacket. “The inspiration for the bulging coat came seven decades ago from a fishing trip gone wrong. Eddie Bauer, a sporting-goods entrepreneur, was angling in Washington state when a freezing rain soaked his wool shirt and wool underwear and left him with hypothermia.” Wow. That would be a good reason indeed to re-invent outerwear.
