Where the runway meets the street

Australian designer, Alvin Monalo’s Saint Augustine Academy line, now on his 9th season of menswear, continues to be inspired by music and sound. “To quote Alvin, AW09 (Spring 09 in the northern hemisphere) was inspired by “the three M’s… Medieval Royalty, Monks and Motorbikes”. In true Saint Augustine Academy form Corpus Christi Carol was borne from music. Named after the Jeff Buckley song, which is a cover of a 1508 hymn, the range references medieval and religious detailing, channeling the ornamental construction and detail featured in royalty’s robes and gowns of the time.”
