Lazarus Rising is Ron English’s first solo show at London’s Elms Lesters Painting Rooms. Included are a series of canvases interpreting Picasso’s Guernica (1937). Picasso’s work responds to the Spanish Civil War, English uses this legacy to respond to today’s trouble times.
The exhibition is accompanied by a publication with essays by Paul Jones and Francesca Gavin, who provides insight into English’s pioneering approach.
May 8 to June 6, 2009, at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, 1-3-5 Fitcroft Street, London, WC2H.
