Alan Bean: Painting Apollo

Celebrations of the Apollo Moon landing have come in a few different forms. One of the most interesting (for me) is the exhibition of paintings by Alan Bean currently on view at the Air and Space Museum. Bean was the only member of the Apollo 12 to walk on the Moon’s lunar surface and his paintings give first hand view of the experience. Approximately 40 paintings and drawings are shown. These are given context through a complimentary showing of the lunar artifacts from the museum collection. The exhibition Alan Bean: Painting Apollo is up to January 13, 2010.

Some examples of Bean’s painting follow.
