Alphonse Mattia is one of the leading studio furniture makers in America. His work tackles the concept of “usefulness,” blending emotion and meaning with utility. He teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design. Located in nearby Fall River, MA, his Smokestack studious is shared by several other major players in the studio craft community – including wife Roseanne Somerson. Both are names anyone interested in contemporary American furniture should know.
Above are his “6inch Benches” built of laminated curley maple and epoxy resin inlay.
