A Japanese national treasure, Serizawa Keisuke (1895-1984) created works of art through stencil-dying techniques. From book covers to screens to Kamonos, Serizawa’s work focuses on the natural beauty of material and the warm hue of natural dye. Now on view at the Japan Society, Serizawa: Master of Japanese Textile Design illuminates his production and celebrates his legacy. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog.
Selections from the exhibition follow. The show remains open through January 17, 2010 at New York’s Japan Society.
