While I’m not particularly fond of Manchester City Football Club, I am rather impressed with their efforts to promote their biggest matches. Organized by Music in Manchester, the posters each portray an individual club star through the vision of a particular illustrator. On the above left, Carlos Tevez gets the Shepard Fairey treatment. Shawn Wright-Phillips (on the right) was envisioned by Chris White. Craig Bellamy (handled by Todd Slater) and Emmanual Adabayor (by Micheal Gillette) round out the four. Each promotes a match against one of the top flight of the Premier League – Adabayor infuriatingly the face of the Arsenal fixture.
More than just hyping the matches, the posters stamp the club’s claim as a fixture of the City’s cultural fabric. Very rarely to Premiership Club’s take a more design rich approach to promotion, so these four posters really are at the cutting edge. (via Creative Review).
