This past weekend the Newark Museum opened a new permanent gallery showcasing the institutions collection of contemporary African art. Nine artists – Olu Amoda, El Anatsui, Owusu Ankomah, Viyé Diba, Samuel Fosso, Senzeni Marasela, Etiyé Dimma Poulsen, Julien Sinzogan, and Sue Williamson – are represented, each expressing a different lens through which to engage with the diverse artistic practices emerging from the continent. The museum will also encourage dialogue between the objects in the new gallery with those located in other areas of the collection.
