Something to look forward to this summer is the Portland Museum of Art’s exhibition American Moderns. Drawing from the collection of the Wadsworth Atheneum, American Moderns is the first ever in-depth exploration of the Hartford institutions selection of modernist works on paper. Regarded as the nation’s foremost collection of such material, the Wadsworth’s collection includes rare works by Edward Hopper, Charles Demuth, and Ellsworth Kelly. The exhibit will posit water color as an essentially American medium and champion its use in capturing the restless spirit of the American artists.

American Moderns opens on June 24 and runs through September 12, 2010.
