Rattan Chairs by Abie Abdillah

Indonesian furniture maker Abie Abdillah combines the industrial aesthetic of ubiquitous (in Jakarta) “Oplet” car with highly sustainable rattan in his designs for a new lounge chair and bench. The curvilinear pieces do form a bold footprint, but the lightness of craft – the open nature of the material – balances the bulk. Most impressive is the ‘Pretzel Bench’ which best utilizes the strength of rattan for unusual shaping. (via Design Boom).
