Cody Hudson for MCA Shopping Bags

The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, collaborated with Chicago artist Cody Hudson to redesign the MCA Store shopping bags. Hudson, a former UBS 12 x 12: New Artists / New Work artist and a graphic designer, translated ideas from his complex sculptures, paintings, and large-scale installations into abstracted and compelling graphics to brand the MCA Store’s bags. MCA Senior Designer Scott Reinhard says, “We liked that the design was clearly Cody’s work. He saw the bag as a system of 3D objects, not just a simple application on a flat surface.” The MCA worked closely with Hudson to determine the bag’s dimensions, colors, and logo placement. The final design for the bag is an original work of art that demonstrates the MCA’s mission to work with living artists and creatively engage with the museum visitors. The MCA Store bag is one of the many ways that the MCA collaborates with artists.
