Your Paintings by the BBC

With 63,000 paintings already cataloged, the BBC’s latest public art project, Your Paintings, aims to eventually share the Nation’s entire collection of oil paintings digitally. The site shares the stories behind each work of art and connects users to the home institutions – because, let’s face it, real life is far superior to digital viewing. The ambitious program is neatly organized for searches of individual artists and museums. You can also take guided tours… and will soon be able to organize your own virtual collections tour.

Let’s also not forget to tip our hat to a project that gives the public ownership of a National collection and attempts to make it accessible to all.

Visit Your Paintings now… and, beware that it will smartly suck the rest of your day away.
