Takashi Murakami at Gagosian Gallery London

Sex drives Takashi Murakami’s recent paintings and sculptures, which make up an exhibition of new works at the London outpost of Gagosian. Inspired by Kuroda Seiki, who brought yōga or Western-style painting to Meiji- period Japan, and promoted both history painting and the nude as artistic subject, Muarkami applies traditional techniques to contemporary visions of the nude. Obviously, the influence of anime and manga is there too.

On view through August 5, 2011.
