Where the runway meets the street

We stopped by the Gieves & Hawkes presentation during men’s day at London Fashion Week, a good decision, No.1 Savile Row on form once again. Autumn/Winter 2012 takes its cue from 60’s London. A decade largely ignored in favour of its 1950’s cousin, there’s much to be taken from the daring use of print and cuts of the time.

Design director Barry Tulip looked to The Beatles for inspiration. Their record company Apple, formerly situated next to Gieves & Hawkes on Savile Row, was the venue for their infamous rooftop gig. Legendary tailor Tommy Nutter dressed  them for Abbey Road and it’s his approach to suiting that can be seen throughout the collection. So, all that swinging London feel in mind, expect wide lapels, loud ties and a raised front button on jackets in luxurious fabrics. Watch out for some excellent accessories and subdued outerwear in our gallery.
