We grew up as vetted-skate-brand-only hardliners, but have softened quite a bit over the years where sidewalk surfing is concerned. So a rush of premium decks from designers we admire is just fantastic. Most of them have shapes closer to ’70s cruising boards than modern decks, which works well for us, too, as we are too old for jumping down stairs.

This limited edition set from James Perse delivers two complete set-ups, each featuring a deck handcrafted from solid walnut planks. They roll on wide, sticky polyurethane wheels attached to “high-performance” black trucks. If you were with us yesterday, you know we will be opting for the standard length board over the 45-inch long board. Available here.
