Where the runway meets the street

Ribbens is new to us—the product of a collaborative venture between Richard Deeney and Emily Naismith seeking to design and produce stylish outerwear in England. Here is their Denny jacket, an easy piece that hits its mark with considerable punch. “Our daily influences support and inspire the Ribbens ethos … great music, artists, bands, actors, films, plays, books, wars, art, [and] movements,” we are told.

The “Denny” behind this one is drumming Beach Boy Dennis Wilson. Anyone who has listened to Pacific Ocean Blue or seen Two-Lane Blacktop might be quick to agree that Dennis was the Wilson brother to watch (side-stepping his brief friendship with pre-mass murderous Charles Manson). This is a coat we can picture the man in [Wilson, not Manson]—strolling a foggy beach and humming something lovely, quietly to himself, and keeping dry under the muted waxed cotton.
