In a surprising move, New York designer Adam Kimmel announced today that he will be going on a year long sabbatical from fashion. As a result the brand will not be presenting its Spring/Summer 2013 Collection in Paris this summer. Read the full press release here below.
“After ten years and eighteen collections, I have decided to take a year-long sabbatical from fashion. I intend to use this time to enrich my vision, spend time with my family, and explore a number of creative arenas that have interested me while I’m still young.
I am a designer and creator, first and foremost. I look forward to utilizing this next year to experiment and learn, and channel what I find into new concepts, designs, and projects. I believe this is how designers become better stewards to their work.
I want to say thank you for their support to all those who have been taking this journey with me, my team, my friends, partners, and Carhartt which has been a particularly meaningful collaboration for me.”
Adam Kimmel announced today that he will be putting his Adam Kimmel label on hiatus for a year. The company will be stopping its ready to wear activity with the Fall/Winter 2012-2013 delivery of the Adam Kimmel collection, which will be completed and honored as scheduled.
Spring/Summer 2013 collection will not be presented in Paris as planned. The Adam Kimmel for Carhartt collection will follow the same schedule with delivery of the Fall/Winter collection. Additionally, previously announced collaboration with Supreme will be released later this year as planned.
We have always been Adam Kimmel fans and appreciated his unique approach to fashion. At this point we hope that we will see him back in the game in a year’s time, but we have to admit, that this move comes at a strange moment. It finally felt like the brand was making progress in terms of wider distribution and with the addition of the lower priced Carhartt collaboration.
We will know more in about a year and will of course keep you in the loop.
