Clive Darby has been in the menswear game for over 28 years, period which saw him launch two brands, Kilgour and Richard James, as well a stint as a buyer at Browns and stylist to Prime Ministers and various other celebrity types. In 2009 and he launched RAKE, a tailoring heavy brand for those who like things ‘elegant’. We spoke to Clive about the upcoming show and London Collections: Men.

London Collections: Men is on its way, what do you think about this extended menswear schedule?
CD  – We are excited, proud and nervous to be a part of London Collections.
What do you think prompted this new focus on menswear?

CD -I think for some time this has been bubbling away and menswear at this present moment is having a strong impact on both a global and domestic consumer. We have a generation of brands that are realising that they have to be commercial and professional in order to grow there businesses.
Can you tell us a little about the initial stages of creating your SS13 collection? How did it all begin

CD – It all begins with our RAKE man. Who he is, where has he travelled to, what era we set him in. Our inspiration is derived from many things.
What can you tell us about SS13? How would you describe this upcoming collection?
CD – Our  SS13 Collection’s geared around the period when travel was still romantic. Our man travels and has an upmarket, nomadic vagabond approach to life: He is a man who moves through the bazaars of Marrakech to the nightclubs of Paris with ease never loosing the twinkle in his eyes.
How do you think the London menswear scene has changed over the past 5 years?
CD – It’s no longer just relying on charm to do business.
