In what would probably be one of the more intimidating modeling gigs out there, Anna Albrekht tries to nail down the wild spirit of Patti Smith for Helmet Magazine. Some of the more literal shots are a little heavy-handed, but there is a melancholic playfulness throughout that speaks to the naivete and genius that marked Smith’s career early on (at least that is the impression that her book Just Kids, about living with Robert Maplethorpe, created). Interesting also to be reminded of the poet/rocker’s status as a sex symbol, as last time we saw her on Charlie Rose she was sporting a light moustache.
