Back in 1948 London hosted the Olympics through the austerity of a post-war Britain. We were skint then and we’re pretty skint now, but the kits worn by Team GB athletes were most definitely something to be proud of. Knitwear specialist John Smedley and Umbro Tailored revisit these classics in this latest collaboration. Umbro’s archive offered up two pieces; a running vest and track sweater. The vest becomes the Tangeru shirt – three buttons, crew collar, Brit stripes, 30 gauge ecru Sea Island cotton and a blank panel where the team patch would have proudly sat. The sweater, a lightweight navy 24 gauge knit, features ribbed collar and cuffs and a hidden commemorative number in the back. Both pieces have a traditional feel, while remaining wearable and are a reminder of just how beautiful vintage sportswear can be. Find it at both online stores alongside Present and Selfridges in London.
