The piquant banana flavor of Russian River Brewing Company’s Damnation Golden Ale took me instantly back to a fourth-grade science experiment: sprinkling some yeast on a banana and watching it decompose in a jar. A great lesson until some of the pungent juice dripped on my shirt. The stench refused to yield, even after repeated washings. Had to throw the soft polo away.
The shirtless fourth-grader inside me instantly equated the color of this ale to the glow of the most productive snot, but the adult at the wheel was taken by the intensity by the flavor. He is calling it “like fresh, tart crackers handed to you by a matronly European woman from the last century.” Evocative stuff.
