Buyer’s Guide: Cozy Wool Turtlenecks

Thanks to Brock and his guide on layering I recently learned that putting on 5 t-shirts on top of each other is NOT considered layering. People still just shake their heads when they see me rocking short sleeves, while the world outside is succumbing to permafrost. So I decided to get my first knitted sweater in years, partly because I kinda grew tired of having to explain why I don’t have any winter appropriate garb at all. After the first sweater clad day, I have to admit it feels kinda nice, so nice actually I decided to stock up on knits a little bit more.

Unused – Chunky Roll Neck Sweater

Japanese brand Unused provides this great oversized turtleneck. Crafted from pure navy coloured wool, the sweater features an all over classic ribbed pattern, knit detailing bellow the neck and a spacious boxy silhouette, making it a perfect layering piece. Get it at LN-CC.

Penfield – Adamsville Rollneck

Made from 100% lambswool, this sweater by Penfield is sure to keep you warm this winter. Details include suede elbow patches adding to that understated yet sophisticated look. Get it at goodstead.

NN.07 – Tom Long Merino Wool Rollneck Sweater

This chunky fisherman inspired turtleneck by NN.07 is densely knitted from soft merino wool and features an extra long body, providing enough warmth to wear it under a blazer or a light jacket. The sweater is available at Mr. Porter.

Moncler – Fairisle Polar Neck

The folks at Moncler have been providing quality for 60 years now. Every now and then it seems that they haven been digging through their archives, coming up with some classic pieces like this hand made Fairisle patterned yoke sweater, which looks like it has travelled through time from a 1950s french ski resort. Get it at Endclothing.

Maison Martin Margiela – 14 Men’s Replica Chunky Rollneck

This super chunky and warm turtleneck is my personal crowning piece from Maison Martin Margiela‘s current Fall/Winter collection. Made in Italy from soft, thick premium red wool, the sweater features a striking combination of cable, rib and purl patterns, resulting in a functional and smart looking companion for the following winter months. Oki-ni has it in stock now.

Junya Watanabe – Elbowpatch Turtleneck Sweater

Here comes another one from Japan. This understated yet smart sweater from Junya Watanabe‘s current Fall/Winter collection features a grey flecked woolen body and contrasting dark elbow patches. The sweater is available at Colette.

Carven – Tan Two-tone Mottled Cableknit Turtleneck

French fashion house Carven is famous for its elaborate knitwear. This piece is no exception from the rule. It features a chunky yet slim fit cable knit pattern grey body and contrasting ribbed knit sleeves. Wear it under a blazer for a smart Steve McQueen style, or rock it with a moustache like a 70s porn star. Get this versatile piece at Ssense.
