Jeff Koons was recently given the thumbs up from the fancy wine world with the comission to design the label for Chateau Mouton Rothschild vintage. The honour, handed down by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, has a tradition dating back to 1945 with a new artist in charge of the image each year. The list includes incredible names such as Dali, César, Miró, Chagall, Picasso, Warhol, Soulages, Bacon and Balthus. In great company, Koons uses the Birth of Venus, a fresco from Pompeii adding silver pen illustration on top, rewarded with cases of the “dark and intense red” rather than anything as vulgar as payment.
