Kendrick Lamar, 25, is a Compton MC whose major label debut album good kid, m.A.A.d. city, received critical and commercial acclaim. He wrestles with his own morals against a backdrop of gang violence and police brutality throughout the 68-minute album which ends with the triumphant track “Compton” featuring West Coast heavyweight Dr. Dre. In anticipation of good kid, m.A.A.d. city’s release, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg hailed the young Compton MC as the new “King of West Coast Rap.” Lamar is currently on tour in support of the album.
During a recent visit to Berlin, German music journalist, DJ, Radio and TV star Hadnet Tesfai sat down with Kendrick Lamar to talk about his album, his personality and his development as a rapper.
