Video: David Bowie releases his first New Song in 10 Years ‘Where Are We Now’

David Bowie celebrated his 66th birthday and for this occasion released the first song ‘Where Are We Now’ of his soon to come new album ‘The Next Day’. A major fact about this release is that it is Bowie’s first since a whole decade. Bowie shot to fame in the late 60s with Space Oddity but has been largely silent in recent years, not performing live since 2006 and rarely appearing in public since then. He also turned down the opportunity to appear at the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony despite a personal plea by director Danny Boyle.

“Throwing shadows and avoiding the industry treadmill is very David Bowie despite his extraordinary track record that includes album sales in excess of 130m, not to mention his massive contributions in the area of art, fashion, style, sexual exploration and social commentary.” said a Columbia press release.

The single release of ‘Where We Are Now’ is accompanied by a music video remembering Bowie’s time in Berlin showing footage of of the auto repair shop beneath the apartment he used to live in along with strong images of the city as it was back in that time.

Bowie is a legend no matter if you like his music or not. As an artist he has definitely written history.
