After first announcing the closure of OriginalFake, the brand by Brooklyn artist KAWS and Japanese toy maker Medicom Toy, in January, the day has finally come. On May 31, 2013, OriginalFake officially closed its doors. The brand and the Tokyo store have both closed. After serving fans for seven years with premium streetwear and toys, the partnership has come to an end. KAWS and Medicom Toy will continue to produce toys though and we will of course keep you posted about that.
Maybe not relevant on the same level, we still do have to note the recent departure of NIGO from his brand BAPE. It seems like some key brands that have made an impact in streetwear and fashion in the last decade are closing down or facing big changes these days.
