SUBURBAN is the latest multifaceted project by Australian-born and New York-based artist Ian Strange, aka Kid Zoom. Over a period of two years Strange traveled across the U.S. in his ongoing endeavor to explore suburbia – a theme he first introduced to his oeuvre in 2011, when he recreated a full-scale replica of his childhood home inside Cockatoo Island’s Turbine Hall in Sydney. With the help of a film crew and volunteers in Ohio, Detroit, Alabama, New Jersey, New York and New Hampshire he created, photographed and filmed eight site specific interventions incorporating suburban homes.

Eight large-scale photographic works, a multi-channel, surround sound video installation, along with carefully selected fragments of the original buildings that Strange has saved will be exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria starting July 26.
