This residence built by Bossley Architects is not without some environmental constraints: It stands right in between a steep edge of a cliff facing Karaka Bay and a curvy road. To maximize space, the house intentionally curves along with the road and protects itself with surrounding stone walls. The house’s main identifying characteristic is the black horizontal lines that veil the front façade, which are actually “variegated cedar” wood. Beneath the window-blind-like exterior is frosted glass that gives the occupants privacy while still bringing in plenty of natural light.
