As its unique name suggests, [wherever]: An Out of Place Journal is exceedingly original and untraditional. The new print magazine on “travel literature, travel culture and travel politics” is filled with keenly emotional and personal pieces on traveling abroad and being away from home. Memorable features include “an unscientific observation” of fashion in North Korea by Andrea Lee, the analysis and history of the shoe by Mary Von Aue and an Arabic poem translated by Ahmad Diab on the necessity to travel. It wouldn’t be an attractive print magazine without some quirky illustrations and colorful photography, both of which the magazine has plenty of.
