Where form meets function

Founded by Bono and Bonny Shriver in 2006, (RED) charity raises awareness and funds to help eliminate HIV/AIDS in Africa through brand partnerships that create “red” specific products and goods for consumers. Over the years, (RED) has worked with the likes of Nike, Converse, Armani, Gap, and American Express on such programs, but their latest initiative may well be their most ambitious project yet.

With a simple, straightforward request from Bono, industrial designers’ Jony Ive and Marc Newson were tasked to bring together the finest examples of modern-day design for a monumental auction in conjunction with Sotheby’s.

Jony Ive & Marc Newson (RED) Auction at Sotheby’s is the result of this call. Featuring countless one-of-one special edition products in special (RED) editions, the Ive/Newson auction is expansive. Key items include a Dom Pérignon red cooler, red Hermès saddle, an Olivetti “Valentine” typewriter new in box, a Space Shuttle window, a (RED) edition 2013 MacPro, prototype Cinelli bicycle, a custom-designed Leica camera, and an iconic Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet signed by George Lucas.

The Jony Ive & Marc Newson (RED) Auction at Sotheby’s begins tomorrow, November 23 at 7:00pm. The public can view the exhibited items today through 5:00pm and tomorrow through 1:00pm.
