Shell Villa by ARTechnic

The futuristic form of Shell Villa, designed by ARTechnic and situated in Nagano, Japan, is rendered from a large piece of concrete curved over itself to create an enclosed alcove. Located in the middle of a forest, the stark contrast of the concrete structure is tied to nature through the use of various woods in the outdoor deck and internal flooring and fit-outs. Curved around a central deck and tree, the villa makes use of both indoor and outdoor space, merging the two. The external concrete wall features only two skylights while floor-to-ceiling glass on the open internal side allows sunlight to enter the house. Most of the modernist furniture is built into the interior, allowing for extra space and a clean design that echoes the exterior of the house.
