The whole idea of street art is that it is never really permanent. Even protected commissioned works eventually fall prey to the elements, other vandals or potential building renovations. Considering this then, it’s quite a feat for a street artist to be recognized and remembered for a piece of art, especially if it’s only temporary. Depending on where and when a piece of art was created is something that highly affects the visibility and notoriety of a work.
Of course, there are some pieces that were just made to become internationally famous by a great artist with a great concept and great execution. A select few street artists are somehow able to capture the zeitgeist and create works that are so wide reaching they transcend physical and historical boundaries that remain with us forever. Some are so iconic that they are the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of a city, and others are more notorious for the subtle way they infiltrate a location. So in light of this, we’ve compiled a list of the 10 most renowned pieces of street art. See them all over at Green Label.
