Aesop makes the newest addition to their roster of eclectic retail spaces, most recently looking to Kawaramachi in Kyoto, Japan. The fine Australian cosmetic label prides itself on their architectural ethos – working with what already exists in a manner that only adds to the surrounding neighborhood. Thus, no two shops are the same and have typically been designed by a local firm. Torafu Architects headed the operation in a mere four months implementing a concrete interior with pale green fixtures and “squid fishing” boat lights up top. Tall ceilings and proper merchandising help maximize the small two-story space of only 10 feet in width. Head to Aesop for more info and make sure to see the gallery above.
