Where the runway meets the street

Burberry takes us on “a painterly journey” for Fall/Winter 2014. Christopher Bailey brought his love of 20th-century British painters to create bold prints in floral, leaf, brushstroke and check for scarves, bags and Burberry’s signature outerwear. The overall tone of the collection is light, with fishnet mesh shirts and bright colors like cream and orange used as accents. A jaw-dropping long leather coat with hand-painted color blocks walked down the runway as well as a series of oversized weekender-tote hybrids called The St. Ives. Blanket scarves and trousers more loosely tailored than Burberry’s usually fitted styles complete the artistic flair of the collection.
