Where the runway meets the street
Russell Southern

While Russell Athletic Archive continue to perfect the classic sweat, their premium label, Russell Southern By John Lofgren, heads a couple of decades earlier, creating athletic clothing from the ’20s to the ’40s using original manufacturing techniques and fabrication. This Fall/Winter 2014 collection focuses on garments created by Russell Southern for military schools during this period, early sportswear sought after by those in the know. Expert vintage hunter and repro maker John Lofgren, a California native now living in Japan, has been brought in to oversee the line, ensuring everything has that original feel and look. Alongside hooded sweatshirts, long-sleeved henleys and cotton layers, the centrepiece, a serge wool Cadet Coat with worsted wool shawl collar and quilted rayon lining, sums up the small collection’s dedication to eye-popping quality.
