After his 2013 solo exhibition, “Suburban,” at the National Gallery of Victoria; and “Final Act,” at the Canterbury Museum, Christchurch; Australian artist Ian Strange follows up with his latest installation, unveiled at the 2014 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art. The site-specific sculptural work, dubbed Landed, is the recreation of a 1920s Australian suburban home, similar to the artist’s childhood home. Placed in front of the Art Gallery of South Australia, it is designed both as a contrast to the building’s neoclassical architecture and as a playful reference to The Wizard of Oz and the sudden appearance of Western culture in Australia.
