Highsnobiety x HUGO: The Manhattan Walk

Presented By HUGO

To ring in the new season, we’ve partnered up with HUGO BOSS in New York City to present a range of looks from the HUGO Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Comprised of six unique outfits, each HUGO look features a contemporary take on fashion staples. For instance, a bold, powerful red suit is given an added dose of youthfulness through the use of a camouflage shirt underneath. The daring contrast of the pairing is featured more subtly in another outfit, while the same color scheme is applied to part of the footwear collection.

Throughout all six outfits, trousers are kept slim and intentionally cropped, furthering the identity of HUGO in the tumultuous world of today’s fashion circus. Alongside the pleated offerings, a white pair of biker-inspired bottoms are included as well, adding yet another dimension to the label’s increasingly street-savvy aesthetic. The detailing seen on these bottoms are carried up into the label’s seasonal outerwear with zippers in place of breast and hand pockets.

Also as part of the HUGO Spring/Summer 2014 outerwear collection, contrasting sleeves make an appearance, although that too is done rather subtly through the use of different materials and just-barely contrasting colors. This darker aesthetic is carried across three outfits – which on paper sounds dull but works in reality – through the use of mixed fabrics, each exuding a different sheen. Fine details are present throughout such as leather accenting along a blazer and a textured leather body on a zip-up jacket.

Riffing on the idea of the crisp white shirt, HUGO adds a striking white stripe straight across the garment’s chest. The result is a decidedly contemporary piece which serves to update the piece for 2014 and break up an outfit’s otherwise conservative proportions.

Eyewear continues the label’s latest theme, sticking to a clean aesthetic dominated by sharp lines and a strong silhouette. Although its presence isn’t felt so strongly, the sunglasses certainly add an extra layer of luxurious casualness to the collection.

Perhaps most impressive among the Spring/Summer 2014 offerings, however, is the previously mentioned HUGO footwear collection which includes a streetwear-inspired monk-strap shoe in two colorways and a casual yet dressy patent leather sneaker. Both take classic silhouettes and adapt them for today’s rapidly paced world with unique paneling and textured uppers. The use of different materials is accentuated through various finishes and colors, all of which reinforce the label’s first venture into the Year of the Horse.
