On a recent visit to Munich we decided to pop in to a few select stores. While visiting one of Munich’s classics, concept store Pool, we came across the jewel of our short weekend trip – Leidmann Optician. The third shop of the premium optician is located in a lower level locale on Maximilianstrasse, the most expensive shopping street in Munich. While the store might not exactly fit between all the high-fashion brands located to the left and right of it, its offbeat location underground makes it all work.
The interior is vintage-inspired yet modern and it is this exact mix of styles that we loved so much about the calm space. Most of the store is constructed of wood and darkened metal, while a B&O Play A9 speaker and a bright green grass wall add a special design touch to the minimal space. The narrow, long store is complemented by a beautiful long wooden wall. At first it might seem as if choice is limited at Leidmann. Upon closer inspection, however, the majority of sunglasses and glasses are discreetly stowed away behind the wooden wall and can easily be presented once a sales person has figured out what the client is looking for.
The selection is, of course, fantastic. Some of the best brands in the world are amassed at Leidmann, including Thom Browne, Mykita, Garrett Leight, Celine, Ralph Vaessen, Cutler and Gross, Barton Peirrera and more. The most unique feature might be the pickup counter in the middle of the store. If you order prescription glasses at Leidmann, you will find your specific pair of glasses located inside a lit box in the store, along with your name tag on the drawer. If you’re in the market for a new pair of sunglasses for the summer months ahead and find yourself in Munich, we can only advise you stop by.
