For his largest solo exhibition to date, Ai Weiwei recently installed 6,000 wooden stools across the Martin-Gropius-Bau hall in Berlin. Opening tomorrow, “Evidence” features a combination of new works and installations which were either designed for the Martin-Gropius-Bau exclusively or have not yet been shown in Germany, the show spans 3,000 square meters across 18 rooms. Stools stands as the exhibition’s centerpiece and can be found in the museum’s atrium. According to Weiwei, the stools are an expression of the centuries-old aesthetic of rural China. “Evidence” is open to the public from April 3 to July 7.
