Lytro Illum Takes Light-Field Photography a Step Further

Since their debut, Lytro has carved a niche for themselves in the consumer photography market via their light-field approach. Allowing users to interactively change the point of view in a picture after it has been taken, Lytro’s products have redefined how consumers approach creative photography. Now, the company has unveiled the Illum, letting users capture the whole light field. Users will have the ability to explore pictures from different perspectives, focal points and dimensions, while viewing and editing will be taken care of right on the 4″ touchscreen, with an 8x optical zoom at the ready. Intuitively, users can select what to focus on in a shot by tapping it on the display. Some desktop tools will be available as well, letting users get even more creative with their pictures. The camera is now available for pre-order straight from the source with shipping expected in July.
