For the first Titanium Trial of 2014, Castrol EDGE recruited Ken Block alongside three other drivers to undertake the “Titanium Strong Blackout” – the world’s first state-of-the-art racetrack drenched in darkness. Along with DTM drivers Augusto Farfus, Mike Rockenfeller and Lamborghini Squadra Corse test driver Adrian Zaugg, Ken will drive his 2014 Ford Fiesta ST RX43 through a racetrack shrouded in darkness, with obstacles created out of beams of light. Designed in four sections and involving a four-car relay, the drivers will pass through various challenges including a laser donut box, a 100m-high column of light, and a dual drift as they perform in sync with each other. Ken spoke of the challenge:
“The Titanium Strong Blackout Trial that I participated in was definitely a first for me. I’ve never run my car flat-out in a dark setting with no headlights before, so that was definitely a new challenge for me. Combine that factor with the light obstacles dancing around and I can honestly say it’s one of the more entertaining and unique things I’ve done in my driving career. I’m stoked that I was able to be involved in this project.”
The Titanium Trials, announced in Geneva in March earlier this year, are a series of high-powered driving challenges that mark the launch Castrol’s most advanced motor oil to date – Castrol EDGE boosted with TITANIUM FST™. Filmed by Logan Films, the same team behind Ken’s Gymkhana 5 & 6 videos, the Castrol EDGE Titanium Strong Blackout video will perfectly highlight this impressive feat. The full video releases worldwide on May 27. You can view the teaser trailers featuring Ken and the other three drivers below, and follow the lead up to the video here.
