Bates Masi Architects renovate Far Pond, a 1970s-built single family residence on a waterfront site in Southampton, New York. The designers sought to minimize waste by simplifying materials as much as possible, using only steel and wood extensively. Steel is perforated and applied as chandeliers, staircases, and even window blinds, while wood lines all floor, wall, and ceiling surfaces. Such resourceful uses of a single material successfully eliminate typical construction waste, as well as create a powerful contrast that makes the home visually pleasing. Browse the gallery.
