Where form meets function

Damien Hirst returns to his natural world works with this latest creation. Entitled ‘Gone But Not Forgotten,’ a three-meter tall woolly mammoth skeleton has been gilded in gold, placed inside a steel and glass case. Hirst describes “it’s such an absolute expression of mortality, but I’ve decorated it to the point where it’s become something else, I’ve pitched everything I can against death to create something more hopeful, it is gone but not forgotten.” Donated to AIDS charity amfAR for auction, expected to fetch millions, see more in the gallery.
