Giro Sport is helping to push a demand for lighter, more traditional footwear in the sport of cycling with the release of their new Empire SLX cycling shoes. They take a back step with the shoe by revisiting lace-up closures that dominated the sport decades ago. Buckles and straps commonplace on most modern cycling shoes are replaced with Giro’s KDL Techno Laces, using technology first flexed and tested in soccer cleats across the globe. An Easton EC90 SLXII carbon outsole stiffens the shoe and helps keep the shoe’s weight to around an incredibly light 175 grams. Giro Sport Empire SLX cycling shoes are available this fall for $350.
