1955

The brand gains international recognition when it starts exporting shoes to Australia, marking its first global expansion.

1964

During the Tokyo Olympic Games, several athletes wear Onitsuka shoes, helping the brand gain visibility and prestige on a global platform.

1966

The brand launches the Mexico shoe line, known as Onitsuka Tiger. The shoes become popular for their distinctive crossed stripes design.

1977

Onitsuka Co., Ltd., GTO Co., Ltd., and JELENK Co., Ltd. merge to form ASICS Corporation. The new brand name, "ASICS," is an acronym for "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," a Latin phrase meaning "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body."

1981

ASICS America Corporation is established as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

1986

ASICS introduces the GT-II, the first running shoe with Gel technology, which provides superior cushioning and comfort.

1990

The company debuts the Kayano Trainer, a shoe that quickly becomes a classic in the ASICS lineup and an iconic style in the athletic footwear industry.

1993

ASICS Research Institute of Sports Science is established in Kobe, providing the brand with cutting-edge research facilities to improve and innovate their products.

2000-2010s

2015

FlyteFoam-Based Running Shoeis released. The lightest midsole material in the history of ASICS.

Novak Djokovic (wins the international tennis tournament in 2018) wearing ASICS tennis shoe "GEL-RESOLUTION™ NOVAK" to great success in various tournaments.

Yasuhito Hirota is Appointed COO and Representative Director

2021

METASPEED™ SKY/EDGE running shoes released

2022

Yasuhito Hirota was appointed President CEO, COO and Representative Director, and Motoi Oyama was appointed Chairman and Director.

ASICS launched the trainning wear that incorporated the same functional structure as the “Podium Jacket”, the main item of the official sportswear for the Japanese national team at the 2021 international multi-sport competition. It was equipped with ACTIBREEZE™, a unique functional structure that identifies areas where body temperature tends to rise and effectively lowers humidity based on the "ASICS Body Thermomapping" proven by the ASICS Institute of Sport Science.
