We examine the military-inspired offerings from Sempach, which takes influence from authentic Swiss army gear.

Milan label Sempach revisits its origins with a range of timeless pieces that draw inspiration from the design and materials of Swiss army gear. Focusing on the values that made Swiss army equipment a paragon of form and function, the Sempach collection crafts a selection of sturdy jackets with fabrics resurrected from the Swiss military’s quilted sleeping bags, sampling other details like hardware and linings from heritage military gear.

Sempach is the name of the historical battleground where the members of the Swiss Cycle Regiment went proudly on parade for the very last time in 2003. The regiment, phased out after 112 years of honorable service, encapsulated the Swiss design ethos and values that the country’s army has come to represent: pared-down aesthetic, high-level efficiency and functional details.

Just two years after that historic parade at Sempach, Christian Wernle took inspiration from the quilted fabric used in the historic Swiss army sleeping bags and reinterpreted them with a set of rugged, hard-wearing jackets.

Sempach’s faithful reinterpretations of authentic military gear is available at a variety of high-end retailers worldwide; including United Arrows, Beams, Journal Standard and Antonia. For a full list of stockists, head over to Sempach’s website.
