Amsterdam has quietly become a simmering hotbed of domestic sneaker talent in recent years, cementing the Dutch reputation for quality footwear. Now, Mercer Amsterdam has become the first of these homegrown brands to add knit technology to its range, further challenging the dominance of the big names in the industry.
Across a limited edition run of two colorways — a classic black and white "Oreo" and a colorful "Multi" model — the brand has updated its signature Wooster silhouette with a luxurious Italian knitted upper, giving it a sportier look for summer that's bang on current trends. Inside, the sneakers feature a soft, perforated calfskin lining and a gel insole, making them super comfortable to wear over long periods.
The Wooster Knit is the latest addition to Mercer Amsterdam's expanding presence in the luxury sneaker market, and joins other models like the Park Ave. and the Grand to make up their Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The first drop arrived two weeks ago, and the coming weeks will see the release of a neoprene-clad "Tech" Wooster, and a "Metallic" pack especially for women.
Limited to just 100 pairs in each colorway, and available in both men's and women's sizes, the Mercer Amsterdam Wooster Knit goes on sale via the brand's webstore at 10 a.m. CET, February 27. For details of other Mercer drops, check out the brand's release calendar.
