When you come across a great film, it's always a good idea to do some research and check out other movies that are in the same sphere, so to speak. With our If You Liked series we intend to do just that. Each week we'll be presenting you with a selection of films you'll love "if you liked" that week's particular highlighted movie and/or director.

This week’s film recommendations are based on Guillermo del Toro's classic fantasy, Pan's Labyrinth. The film is centered around the young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer who escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world. While exploring an ancient maze, Ofelia encounters the faun Pan, who tells her that she is a legendary lost princess and must complete three dangerous tasks in order to claim immortality.

Today we'll be sharing with you six other fantasy-esque films that you're sure to love –Big Fish (2003), Cronos (1993), The Devil's Backbone (2001), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Labyrinth.

When Edward Bloom becomes ill, his son, William, travels to be with him. William has a strained relationship with Edward because his father has always told exaggerated stories about his life, and William thinks he's never really told the truth. Even on his deathbed, Edward recounts fantastical anecdotes. When William, who is a journalist, starts to investigate his father's tales, he begins to understand the man and his penchant for storytelling.

Cronos (1993)

Antique dealer Jesus Gris stumbles across Cronos, a 400-year-old scarab that, when it latches onto him, grants him youth and eternal life -- but also a thirst for blood. As Jesus enjoys his newfound vitality, he's unaware that a dying old man, Dieter de la Guardia, has sent his nephew, Angel, to find the scarab and bring it back to him. But Jesus will not give immortality up easily, even risking the life of his orphan granddaughter.

The Devil's Backbone (2001)

After losing his father, 10-year-old Carlos arrives at the Santa Lucia School, which shelters orphans of the Republican militia and politicians, and is taken in by the steely headmistress, Carmen, and the kindly professor, Casares. Soon after his arrival, Carlos has a run-in with the violent caretaker, Jacinto. Gradually, Carlos uncovers the secrets of the school, including the youthful ghost that wanders the grounds.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

A scientist builds an animated human being -- the gentle Edward. The scientist dies before he can finish assembling Edward, though, leaving the young man with a freakish appearance accentuated by the scissor blades he has instead of hands. Loving suburban saleswoman Peg discovers Edward and takes him home, where he falls for Peg's teen daughter. However, despite his kindness and artistic talent, Edward's hands make him an outcast.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

Hellboy, his pyrokinetic girlfriend, Liz, and aquatic empath, Abe Sapien, face their biggest battle when an underworld prince plans to reclaim Earth for his magical kindred. Tired of living in the shadow of humans, Prince Nuada tries to awaken an ancient army of killing machines to clear the way for fantasy creatures to roam free. Only Hellboy can stop the dark prince and prevent humanity's annihilation.

Labyrinth (1986)

Teenage Sarah journeys to reach the center of an enormous otherworldly maze to rescue her infant brother Toby, who has been kidnapped by Jareth, the Goblin King (David Bowie).

If you liked Pan's Labyrinth, we highly recommend checking out Apollo 13 (1995), Europa Report (2013), Event Horizon (1997), Moon (2009), Solaris (1972) and Sunshine (2007).
