When it comes to video games making the leap over into cinema, they tend to face one of two problems. Either rumors about production starting or deals being finalized swirl around for months, even years, before leading to absolutely nothing. Or they do actually make it on to the big screen, but are widely and tragically panned for being, well, awful. But by the looks of the first Assassin’s Creed trailer, things are about to change.
The sneak peak clip premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night and looks like a polished and potentially exciting action movie with lots of running, jumping, and fighting. It doesn’t appear that the movie will borrow too heavily from any of the games, but it’s very much in line with the franchise’s spirit and style — the plot sees Marion Cotillard send Michael Fassbender back to the time of the Spanish Inquisition to alter the genetic memories left by an assassin ancestor.
Assassin’s Creed will be released in cinemas on December 21. Check out the clip above.
